30. September: Another exciting and eventful day in Westford

Till Ole Hawacker aus der 11b berichtet vom zweiten Unterrichtstag an der Westford Academy:

Today was our second day of school at WA. My morning began with a drive to school from my host parents, after we had breakfast at Muffins on Main, a local café. For the second day in a row, we visited different classes individually, so every student could have their own personal experience with the school. Some students went to Criminal Minds, others tried archery in gym class, and some simply followed their exchange partners throughout the day to see what a typical school day in America looks like. Many of us even took a test in German class about German and American politics, which really highlighted how different school life in America is.

When school ended at 2:20 p.m., most of us went home with our host families, while others stayed behind to check out the afternoon clubs. At 3:40, nearly everyone met at the main entrance of WA to take a bus to Boston, where we spent the evening at Boda Borg. After a short introduction by the staff, we split into groups of 3–5 people and tried to solve as many of the 25 different escape rooms as possible.

Once we were finished, the bus took us back to WA, where we arrived around 8:30 p.m. To round off the day, some of us headed to Five Guys, ending another exciting and eventful day in Westford.

29. September: Our First Day at WA

Timo Polinski aus der 11a berichtet vom Ankommen an der Westford Academy:

Today was our very first school day at WA. My morning started with the yellow school bus, which was already exciting. At school, I joined some of my exchange student’s classes. My first class was marketing. After that, we had a welcome reception in the cafeteria with breakfast, where we also learned more about the American school system. Later, we visited the German class, where we were interviewed. I finished the morning in history class, where we had a quiz.

After school, we went on a bus tour through Westford. We saw many different properties and houses of all sizes, which gave us a good impression of the town and how people live there. In the afternoon, many of us went to the varsity soccer game, which ended in a 1:1 tie. To finish the day, we had dinner at Chipotle and enjoyed a beautiful sunset.

28. September: Third Day in Westford

Jan Hennecke aus der 11a berichtet:

Today was our third day in Westford. I woke up at 8 a.m., and at 9 a.m. we took a one-hour drive to Newburyport to support my exchange partner’s mom while she was running a half marathon. After she finished, we took a 15-minute car ride to Plum Island to take a little stroll on the beach, and in the afternoon we were at home.

Meanwhile, some of the others had their first ice cream at Kimball’s, visited the WA theater class for the first time, or went to see the Patriots win 42:12 against the Carolina Panthers at Gillette Stadium.

And I think I can speak for everyone when I say that we are really looking forward to our first day at WA tomorrow.

27. September 2025: Our first full day in Westford

Vom Ankommen in den Familien berichtet Lilith Seidel, Klasse 11b

Today was our first full day in Westford!! (day 2)
We had a family morning where we got to know our families and tour our neighbourhoods. Of course we brought our families gifts from Germany and we had time to give it to them today. They tried it and were super excited about that. At 5:30 pm we went to the Eckroth family's house for our welcome party, everything looked so beautiful and the food was delicious. We had time to get to know the other exchange students and we played games like Uno and volleyball. We had so much fun and we are really grateful to the Eckroths for hosting everyone.

26. September 2025: We arrived at our destination!

Luisa Hille aus der 10a berichtet von der Reise nach Übersee mit einem Stop in Reykjavik und prächtigen Ausblicken auf Grönland:

After a very long journey we finally made it. We started at the train station in Göttingen and took the ICE at 8:16 to Frankfurt central station. How we know it from the DB we arrived 10 minutes too late but today that didn’t matter. With the second ICE we arrived at the airport in Frankfurt. Now we had to find our terminal, check-in, get through the security checkpoints to finally get to our gate. After we completed all these challenges, we were all excited to get into our first plane to Reykjavik. Everything went well, the plane started and landed smoothly after three hours and we didn’t really have any turbulences.

The weather in Island was a bit cold and everything was wet but the airport looked really nice from the inside. At the Gate to our flight to Boston we had to wait a bit longer because of a really long line. Then it was time to get into the airplane for the second time and now for about 5 and a half hours. It was also a smooth start and after an hour we saw (or at least some of us) the stunning nature of Greenland. It was one of the highlights of the flight. The view out of the window at the landing was wonderful.

After all the controls, we finally saw our exchange partners. Everyone was so happy to see each other in person. After that we put our luggage in the cars and sat with our partners on the bus ride home. Later on we arrived at the school and the partners parents picked us up to go to their houses. It was a wonderful and exciting first day and we all are happy to finally be in Westford.
