20./21. Oktober 2025: It Was Hard to Say Goodbye
Mathilda von Roden aus der 10a berichtet vom letzten Tag in Westford und der Rückreise:
20th/21st of October: Today was our last day in the US. I spend the morning packing my suitcase and then my host family and I went to Crumbl. For our last lunch together we went to Nan‘s Kitchen. After lunch we drove back to the house and watched a movie together and played some games.
At 4:20 it was time to leave the house and we drove to WA where some people already put their luggage into the bus. After saying goodbye and taking a last picture together we hit the road at 5 pm. We arrived at the airport an hour later. After that we checked in and went through security check without problems. We all went to our gate and waited until we could board the plane. The start was smooth and we didn’t have any turbulences on our way to Reykjavik. You could even see the northern lights above Greenland. When we landed in Iceland we had about half an hour to spare. Some got a coffee or something to eat while others just relaxed or went to the bathroom. At 7:20 our flight to Frankfurt departed and we got to see the beautiful sunrise over Iceland.
We arrived in Frankfurt at 12:40, got our luggage and headed to the train station. After a two hour break we got onto the train and drove to Fulda where we had to switch trains to finally get to Göttingen. Of course, how we know it from the DB, the trains were delayed. But after a long time we finally made it to Göttingen and then to Northeim to see our families again. Although it was hard to say goodbye to our host families, everyone was happy to see their families again.
19. Oktober 2025: Farewell Party
Lisa Schäfer aus der 10c berichtet:
Today was our last full day here in Westford. In the morning we spend some time with our host families and then at 3pm we met up for the farewell party. At the party we all talked, played games and ate some good food. During the party a slideshow with pictures of all our moments together was played and some time later the teachers held a heartfelt speech about our time together during which some started crying because goodbyes are hard!!! Afterwards some us went to hangout in separate groups.
18. Oktober 2025: Our Last Family Day in the U.S.
Louis Geruschkat aus der 10c berichtet:
Today was our last family day here in the United States because we’re leaving on Monday. I spent the day in Vermont visiting my exchange partner’s sister, and it was a really fun and interesting day. We got to see some beautiful nature and spent a lot of time together as a family, which was nice.
Other people from the exchange program did some cool things too some went to Boy Scouts, others visited an aquarium, joined a protest in Boston, went to Boston, had hibachi for dinner, or watched a soccer game at Gillette Stadium where the New England Revolution played against Chicago.
It’s kind of sad that the program is almost over, but I’m also excited to see what comes next.
17. Oktober 2025: Our Last Actual School Day at the Westford Academy :(
Anna Dora Bohne aus der 11a berichtet vom letzten Schultag in Westford und dem Besuch einer Tanzveranstaltung:
Hello everyone!!!
The day started as usual. We had breakfast and afterwards, we headed to school, where we had the chance to explore and experience some new classes one last time.
Sadly, this was our last actual school day at the Westford Academy. :(
We had classes until 2:20 p.m., we had a free afternoon which means we could decide how we wanted to spend it.
In the afternoon, we enjoyed some quality time with our host families and friends and just generally enjoying different kinds of activities. Some of us went to Jill’s house, while others visited Witch’s Woods and went to an Indian festival called Darba at the school.
It was so exciting!!
It was yet another wonderful and exciting day here in Westford.

16. Oktober 2025: Adventure, Mountains & Hot Chicken!
Nikita Schröder aus der 11b berichtet von der Wanerung auf den Mount Watatic:
A Day on the Exchange – Better Than Expected! Adventure, Mountains & Hot Chicken!
Today wasn’t the best day of the whole exchange, but it definitely turned out better than I expected! The morning started with school — nothing too special since we’ve already been here for about three weeks and kind of know how things work by now. Still, gym class was fun! We played basketball and some other games with the American students. The gym looked exactly like the ones in movies — shiny floors, big hoops, and loud sneakers squeaking everywhere.
After school came the main event of the day: our hike up Mount Watatic! We didn’t take a bus this time — instead, we split into small car groups and drove there ourselves. The drive was already nice, with trees glowing in all different autumn colors. The hike itself was a bit exhausting, but the atmosphere made it worth it. Everyone was chatting, laughing, and taking tons of photos. The forest smelled like fall, and when we reached the top, the view was incredible — endless trees and a clear blue sky.
By the time we came back down, everyone was hungry. Half of our group decided to go to Dave’s Hot Chicken for dinner. The restaurant had bright colors, loud music, and amazing food. The chicken was super spicy but also really tasty. We sat together, joked around, and talked about the day — it was the perfect ending.
So yeah, maybe not the most exciting day of the exchange, but it turned out way better than I thought it would. A mix of school, nature, and great food — what more could you ask for?

15. Oktober 2025: At 8am We Left for Boston
Kia-Marie Meyer aus der 11b berichtet vom Besuch in der Landeshauptstadt Boston:
At around 8 am, we left for Boston and spent quite some time in traffic. Our first stop was Harvard University, where Linda gave an interesting presentation. We had time to walk around the campus, take pictures, and visit the Harvard Store before heading on to Boston.
Next, we stopped at the Bunker Hill Monument, where Timo gave his presentation, and then went to the USS Constitution with Luisa and Mathilda. After that, we took a ferry across the harbor to the North End, Boston’s Italian district. Nicole talked about the Boston Tea Party, and later Leo presented at Copp’s Hill Burying Ground.
We continued to the Old North Church for my presentation, then to the Paul Revere House with Lilith, and finally Connor and Nikita talked about Paul Revere’s Ride.
In the afternoon, we had some free time to eat, shop, and enjoy the city. It was a long but really fun day in Boston.
13. Oktober 2025: Taking A Run Along the Old Train Tracks
Jonathan Walther aus der 10m berichtet:
Day 17: Today was Indigenous peoples day, so we had no school and could relax after our trip to New York. After a quick breakfast some of us decided to run 6 kilometers along the old train tracks from Westford. After the run I ate some lunch and took a long lunch break to recover. Around 4:30 some of us went to Millworks, the largest indoor sport complex in New England, to play some volleyball. We finished the day with a game night at Abby's, where we also ate some pizza.
12. Oktober 2025: A Day in New York
Our day began at 5:45 AM at the Westford Academy, where we drove off with the bus. After a quick Breakfast break, the drive continued and ended at Central Park. Here we split up intro smaller groups for the free time.
At first we took a 15 minute walk through the beautiful Streets of New York and ended at Time Square, where we visited a variety of colorful shops. Our next destination was the Public Library. We took another 20 minute walk and stopped at McDonalds to get lunch. After we entered the Public Library we were amazed by the History Exhibition, where we saw many old books aswell as drawings of New York and the library, together with interesting text signs.
At 2:30 PM we met up with all the other groups at the Rockefeller Center. From there we took a bus drive to a Ferry which brought us to Staten Island. On our ride above the water we could see the Statue of Liberty with our own eyes and enjoy a short trip over the Hudson River. We then took another Ferry back to Manhattan and walked to our last destination for the day: The Ground Zero 9/11 Memorial.
We walked through the Park and admired the fountains in the rain, surrounded by the tall buildings of New York.
At 6:20 PM we then met up again to walk to the bus and say goodbye to New York City. The next break was at 8:30 PM when we stopped for dinner and then finally drove back to the Westford Academy, arriving there at 12 AM and leaving the bus with many new memories.
11. Oktober 2025: Family Day
Elias Franz aus der 11a berichtet:
Hello everyone,
Today was a family day, so everybody did something different with their families. I went to an exciting college football game at the Merrimack College. While others went to Salem, which is famous for the witch trials that happened there decades ago. Some went to Boston, to the Beach, or just did something chill like going to the cinema to relax before the exciting day in New York. I’m sure everyone had an enjoyable day and is excited for tomorrow in the city of dreams.
Travel Blog (Eric Neumann | October 10th)
The day started with our usual morning routine.
Some of us went to the German classes to introduce ourselves to the freshmen who are learning German and we ended up playing “Werwolf” together.
After that, we all split up and joined different classes to try some new ones.
In the evening, we headed to a football game in Waltham. But before that, we joined the Tailgate at Jill’s house to hang out and eat before the game, which was super fun. The clothing theme for the match was Pink-Out, so a lot of us showed up in pink outfits.
We arrived at the stadium in Waltham around 7 PM and enjoyed watching the game together under the stadium lights, before eventually heading home and preparing for the next day.
8. Oktober 2025: Visiting Two Middle Schools
Our day began at 8:00 AM. We were excited because we were going to visit two middle schools: Blanchard and Stony Brook. Half of our group went to Blanchard, while the other half, including me, spent the day at Stony Brook.
Each of us had prepared a different presentation about Germany. Some talked about German sayings, others presented sports, and my topic was German sweets. In every class, we split into small groups to give our presentations, and after a while, we rotated so that all students could experience the different topics.
After the morning sessions, we all came together for lunch and exchanged our impressions of the day so far. After that, we visited more classes and continued our presentations, sharing more about German culture.
At 2:20 PM, the school day ended and we all enjoyed a free afternoon afterwards.
7. Oktober 2025: Uncovering Forgotten Stories in Plimoth
At 1 PM, we traveled to Plymouth, MA, to see the Mayflower II replica. After touring that, we headed to the Wrentham Outlets at 3 PM for some shopping. Around 6 PM, we left Wrentham and returned home.
6. Oktober 2025: Altitude Trampoline Park
The day started with an usual morning routine. We went to the german room, which is the overall meeting point. We hung out until the classes started. My school day looked like this: criminal minds, archery, forensics, lunch, playlab and history again. After school the whole group went to Altitude Trampoline Park. This was a lot of fun. They had a dodge ball area, a trick area, a spinning stick to jump over, a climbing wall and a stick to balance on. After we arrived back at WA, some people went to 5 guys, a burger restaurant, some went to okipoki, a sushi place.
5. Oktober 2025: Eggs, Bacon and Pancakes
In the afternoon some students went to Kimball’s, while some went to Witch’s Woods. Meanwhile one student was visiting the White House in Washington D.C.!
I spent my evening bowling and going out for ice cream. Overall, it was a very relaxing day, preparing us for another week of school and adventures.
4. Oktober 2025: At Drew Farm
2. Oktober 2025: Safe and Sound, But Exhausted
Hey everyone,
Today was a very exciting but, for some, also very exhausting day. At noon, we left Westford Academy and headed for Boston. After a good hour's drive, we finally arrived at the Holocaust Memorial, from where we continued on to Faneuil Hall. Then we finally had three hours to explore Boston. Some of us took the subway to Newbury Street to shop there, while others explored the area around the Freedom Trail. At 4:30 p.m., we continued with some presentations on the Freedom Trail, which we were asked to prepare to present to the group. Finally, we all went to Fire+Ice, a restaurant where you can put together your own meal.
At 9 p.m., we all arrived back at Westford Academy safe and sound, but exhausted after a fun day.
1. Oktober 2025: A Beautiful Night
We got to school at 07:45 and then went to class. Most of us went to archery (as you can see in the picture’s) and some to psychology and algebra. After two more classes we had lunch and then had two more classes again.
After school everyone was invited over to Olivers house for a party. So we got there at 3:30 to hang out and celebrate. The sun was shining and everyone was in a good mood. Olivers house is located at the lake so we had the opportunity to go for a swim and also use the paddel board’s, the tube with the boat and the canoe which was very nice and fun. After we got out of the cold water some of us went into the hot tub and then we got pizza. We stayed until 10 pm before we thankfully ended that beautiful night, each at their own host family’s home.
30. September: Another Exciting and Eventful Day in Westford
When school ended at 2:20 p.m., most of us went home with our host families, while others stayed behind to check out the afternoon clubs. At 3:40, nearly everyone met at the main entrance of WA to take a bus to Boston, where we spent the evening at Boda Borg. After a short introduction by the staff, we split into groups of 3–5 people and tried to solve as many of the 25 different escape rooms as possible.
Once we were finished, the bus took us back to WA, where we arrived around 8:30 p.m. To round off the day, some of us headed to Five Guys, ending another exciting and eventful day in Westford.
29. September: Our First Day at WA
After school, we went on a bus tour through Westford. We saw many different properties and houses of all sizes, which gave us a good impression of the town and how people live there. In the afternoon, many of us went to the varsity soccer game, which ended in a 1:1 tie. To finish the day, we had dinner at Chipotle and enjoyed a beautiful sunset.
28. September: Third Day in Westford
27. September 2025: Our First Full Day in Westford
Vom Ankommen in den Familien berichtet Lilith Seidel, Klasse 11b
Today was our first full day in Westford!! (day 2)
We had a family morning where we got to know our families and tour our neighbourhoods. Of course we brought our families gifts from Germany and we had time to give it to them today. They tried it and were super excited about that. At 5:30 pm we went to the Eckroth family's house for our welcome party, everything looked so beautiful and the food was delicious. We had time to get to know the other exchange students and we played games like Uno and volleyball. We had so much fun and we are really grateful to the Eckroths for hosting everyone.

26. September 2025: We Arrived at Our Destination!
Luisa Hille aus der 10a berichtet von der Reise nach Übersee mit einem Stop in Reykjavik und prächtigen Ausblicken auf Grönland:
After a very long journey we finally made it. We started at the train station in Göttingen and took the ICE at 8:16 to Frankfurt central station. How we know it from the DB we arrived 10 minutes too late but today that didn’t matter. With the second ICE we arrived at the airport in Frankfurt. Now we had to find our terminal, check-in, get through the security checkpoints to finally get to our gate. After we completed all these challenges, we were all excited to get into our first plane to Reykjavik. Everything went well, the plane started and landed smoothly after three hours and we didn’t really have any turbulences.
The weather in Island was a bit cold and everything was wet but the airport looked really nice from the inside. At the Gate to our flight to Boston we had to wait a bit longer because of a really long line. Then it was time to get into the airplane for the second time and now for about 5 and a half hours. It was also a smooth start and after an hour we saw (or at least some of us) the stunning nature of Greenland. It was one of the highlights of the flight. The view out of the window at the landing was wonderful.
After all the controls, we finally saw our exchange partners. Everyone was so happy to see each other in person. After that we put our luggage in the cars and sat with our partners on the bus ride home. Later on we arrived at the school and the partners parents picked us up to go to their houses. It was a wonderful and exciting first day and we all are happy to finally be in Westford.
